Taking Care of Your New Pout!
Lip Filler Aftercare – You have completed your research and decided that it is time to invest in yourself. Your highly-trained specialist has masterfully enhanced your smile so that it is beautiful and voluminous.
Some people choose lip fillers to correct asymmetry in their lips; others want fuller, luscious lips. Some even select it as a treatment to overcome issues associated with dry, cracked lips.
Your lip fillers can last as long as 9 months with the right care, so it makes sense that you would want to begin this as soon as you head home after your procedure.
Aftercare for your Lip Fillers
To protect your investment, it is pertinent that you follow the correct lip filler aftercare. The doctor-led team at Define Laser meticulously planned your treatment to the millimetre to ensure your fillers were perfectly placed. The proper methods, sterilisation procedures, equipment and dermal filler products, were used to achieve a wonderful result, but the next step is up to you!
Lip Filler Downtime
Immediately after the procedure, you can expect to experience some swelling and possibly bruising too. This is completely normal and may last for up to 3 days. Although many people never experience visual bruising, you can also expect to feel some tenderness in the area.
Some people schedule their appointments to be on a Friday so that most of these visible effects have disappeared by the time they return to work on Monday; however, many go about their day with no downtime at all. It is all personal preference and of course, depends on your lifestyle.
Any discomfort, swelling or bruising may also be reduced by using ice packs on the area.
A little preplanning can help too. If you avoid blood-thinning medications, anti-inflammatories (such as Nurofen) and fish oil supplements 3 days before your lip treatments, your swelling and bruising can also be reduced. Additionally, the chances of bruising can be decreased if you avoid fish oil and Vitamin E for a short period afterwards (see below).
How to Care for Your Lip Filler After Your Treatment
As well as the application of ice packs to reduce swelling and discomfort, there are other steps you can take to ensure the effectiveness and longevity of your cosmetic injectable treatment.
Here is a list of the dos and don’ts of lip filler aftercare:
- DO avoid exercise for 24 hours after your treatment
- DO avoid activities that will increase heat or sweat to the area (saunas and hot showers are a no-no)
- DO keep the treatment area cool and calm with ice packs and avoid exercise that can increase blood flow (no cardio for 24 hours, ladies!)
- DON’T massage the area unless advised by your injector (we want that filler to stay put!)
- DON’T have any facial massages for a fortnight following your treatment
- DON’T drink from a straw for 24 hours after your treatment
- DON’T take any fish oil or vitamin E supplements for two weeks after your treatment.
