The Dermapen works by natural collagen stimulation and skin tightening, in order to assist with rejuvenation. This Skin Needling technique offers unparalleled collagen induction by harnessing the body’s innate ability to re-grow and repair the skin as a response to micro-damage. This small, hand-held device delivers up to 1,300 micro punctures per second into the skin, thus stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and normalising various skin functions.
It is less painful, results in less bleeding and is more efficient for facial contours than the older style dermal rollers, whilst delivering equivalent results. A topical anaesthetic cream is applied prior to treatment, in order to minimise discomfort.
A series of 4 – 6 treatments may be advised for optimal results.
We have recently begun using the Infini device which combines Radiofrequency (RF) and Micro-needling to stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin of our clients.
There are 49 micro-needles in the Infini handpiece, which are inserted into the skin at a depth of between 0.5mm – 3.5mm, depending on the condition being treated.
Once the tips of the needles are inside the skin, they pass radiofrequency energy between them. This results in dermal coagulation and creates collagen.
You may need 3 to 4 sessions, and typically results are seen 6 – 8 weeks after treatment.
The first phase of the treatment begins with the release of the body’s own growth factors, followed by a cascade of new epidermal growth, fibroblast chemo-taxis, fibroblast proliferation, and matrix production.
This proliferation of the body’s tissue continues to release growth factors from fibroblasts, keratinocytes and monocytes, culminating in the stimulation of collagen.
The last phase, we see the desired result of a Dermapen™ Treatment is the tissue remodeling process, where the skin’s vascular matrix matures, causing skin to tighten. The body’s ability to remodel and heal itself is at the heart of this amazing product.
Moreover, because the process never involves heat or thermal energy, does not use harsh chemicals, so the skin heals quickly over approximately 5 days.
Rejuvenation: 4-6 treatments, 4 weeks apart
Acne scarring: 6 treatments, 6 weeks apart
Stretch marks: 4-8 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart
For optimal results, a period of effective active treatment creams, such as Vitamin A, C or Resveratrol & Procyanidin is recommended to allow the skin’s strength to build-up (especially for thin or delicate skin areas).
Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments (spaced 4-6 weeks apart). Your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments and when combined with the recommended post treatment care.
For minimum needle depths Dermapen Treatments are painless. Treatments over 0.5mm deep, may require a topical anesthetic cream to be applied for up to 60 minutes before the procedure. This will render the treatments virtually pain free.
Generally no, but you may experience facial redness for 12-48 hours after the treatment. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Application of a breathable camouflage will seal the skin and cover any redness for an immediate return to work.
It is recommended to wait at least 14 days after filler injections, so that any post treatment bruising from the fillers can settle. It is also possible to have your Dermapen Treatment several days before having fillers injected. Consult with your practitioner prior to determine exactly how long a wait is best in each particular case.
The Infini Device combines Micro-needling and radiofrequency (RF) to produce new collagen and tighten the skin.
The device has 49 micro-needles which are inserted sequentially. The RF energy travels through the tips of the insulated needles once they are inserted into the skin.
It is the leading treatment option in its field.
You may feel some mild discomfort or pain during this procedure, particularly in bony regions such as the jawline and cheekbone.
However, we aim to minimise the discomfort by applying a topical anaesthetic cream and offering an oral analgesic prior to starting treatment.
Infini uses a sequential needle insertion technique which is more gentle than traditional/surgical skin needling.
You can expect the skin to feel warm and tight, and you may experience some pinpoint bleeding during the treatment.
Following the treatment some common skin reactions can occur, such as bruising, swelling and redness. These are normal outcomes and typically settle within a couple of days.
Some patients may experience areas of skin crusting following the treatment. We find these usually resolve within a fortnight.
A skin serum can be applied to the impacted areas. It’s also important to keep the skin cool and avoid sunlight for two weeks following the procedure.
Most people need 3 or 4 session and see notable results 6 to 8 weeks following their treatment.
The skin will feel lifted and tightened immediately afterward and you could experience continued improvement for up to 6 months.
