What Causes Spider Veins
There are several factors that may cause spider veins:
- They can be hereditary
- Lack of exercise
- Obesity
- Hormonal – pregnancy and menopause
- They are also common with people who have jobs where they stand all day
Are Spider Veins a Cosmetic Issue Only?
Yes, spider veins are a cosmetic issue, although there are a few exceptions for the patients who say they experience pain and discomfort – they see the treatment as a necessary one.
Ongoing Side Effects Following Spider Vein Treatment
Following treatment, there may be some bruising and redness and if a larger vein has been treated, a brownish pigment may be noticeable for a few months, but that will usually fade away. Permanent damage or side effects is unlikely from treating spider veins.
Number of Treatments
The number of treatments required vary for each patient. Smaller veins close to the surface my disappear instantly while other deeper ones may require two or three more treatments. Dr Watson will assess this in your free consultation and give you an idea of how many treatments he proposes.
What is the Laser Treatment Success Rate for Spider Veins?
No vein procedures with laser can offer 100% guaranteed results. Some patients require multiple treatments for it to be effective. Spider veins can also appear in other areas that were not treated initially. Dr Watson’s success rate is very high – we have had minimal patients over the years where the treatment has not been effective.
