The TGA has recently imposed restrictions on how cosmetic injectables can be marketed, starting January 2024. These regulations affect the cosmetic industry and extend to the wellness and beauty sectors, encompassing treatments aimed at enhancing both physical appearance and performance. Consequently, specific terms previously permissible in marketing materials are now prohibited across all marketing channels.
Cosmetic injectables: past and future terminology
In the past, clinics and practitioners could use a wide range of words to describe their services, commonly seen across different media platforms. With the new changes, these marketing terms are now off-limits.
The rationale behind this prohibition is that these terms allude to prescription-only products. Instead, the TGA suggests alternative phrases like ‘our clinic can provide consultations on reducing the appearance of wrinkles’ to support advertising services without explicitly mentioning prescription medicines.
The TGA has made these changes as an opportunity to establish a new benchmark for responsible cosmetic advertising.
You will now notice changes in Define Laser marketing that will comply with TGA and AHPRA policies.
